List of services

* To motivate/force the concerned institutions to take pollution control measures including pollution survey of industrial establishments, identification of polluting industrial establishments and to take legal action against individuals/institutions violating the Environmental Protection Act and rules as required by conducting mobile courts and filing cases in the Environmental Court;
* To collect compensation from environmental polluters;
* To issue environmental clearance certificates after conducting necessary inspections and tests based on the application of new or existing industrial establishments/projects;
* To review and approve the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports of development activities undertaken by government and private organizations and individuals and to provide advice on completing the EIA;
* To receive complaints related to environmental pollution and to settle them through investigation, to prevent indiscriminate hill cutting, to conduct vehicle surveys and to conduct mobile courts against polluting vehicles;
* To monitor air and water quality, to analyze samples of air, water and liquid waste in laboratories;
* Regularly collect samples, analyze, store data and send reports to determine the quality of ponds, tubewells and drinking water in different areas of the country;
* Take necessary measures to comply with the obligations of various regional and international conventions, agreements and protocols related to the environment at the domestic, regional and international levels;
* Take and implement activities at the national and international levels to combat the effects of climate change.
* Take activities in the field of biodiversity conservation and life safety of the country;
* Take activities to control the import, transportation, use, etc. of toxic and hazardous chemicals;
* Control of ozone-depleting substances;
* Take effective steps for sustainable biodiversity management with the participation of the public in environmentally critical areas;
* Conduct publicity activities to create public awareness about the environment and make environmental information easily available to everyone and celebrate important international days related to the environment with due dignity;
* Prepare and distribute environmental status maps (State of the Environment Report) from time to time;
* Establishing partnership activities with various social/cultural/economic groups to encourage public participation in environmental conservation and management;
* Undertaking and implementing various projects and research activities on important environmental issues;
* Taking legal action against the production and marketing of banned polythene shopping bags;
* Providing environmental opinions after reviewing and evaluating various projects/initiatives undertaken at the government and private levels;
* Organizing various trainings, workshops, exchange meetings, etc. to build capacity at the government and private levels on environmental conservation and management;
* Playing an active role as a member of various committees at the district and upazila levels, including almost all the ministries and their subordinate offices of the country.
